Fleece Fabric – Comfy and Soft

Fleece fabric is especially popular in the cold winter months because it is very warm and soft. While many people pick them out to make blankets, many people also use fabric that is made of fleece to create jackets and even sometimes even holiday-themed sweaters.

The winter months are too cold for most, and bundling up when the temperature starts to drop is something that everyone does. Fleece fabric is popular in the winter because it holds in body heat well and is extremely light, not to mention soft. While it is not common or popular at all when it is warmer outside, in the fall and winter fabric stores just boom with all sorts of styles for you to choose from — many of which are holiday-themed.

Whether you are looking to create something that is themed after a popular winter or fall holiday or are just looking to make yourself something warm to wear at home or out on the town, you will likely be able to find just what you need at your local fabric store. Most fabric stores increase their fleece fabric stock five-fold once fall starts to come around, which makes them a virtual playground of choices for you to go through.

Before running out to the fabric store and getting your own fleece to make something warm with, there are two things you should know.

The first is that fleece does tend to fade over time after repeated washes. This can take anywhere from two or three washes to several dozen, but it almost always happens — often when you least expect or want it to. There are some varieties out there these days that re more resilient, but you can expect to pay anywhere from two to four times as much for this particular type of fleece.

The second thing for you to keep in mind is that fleece does not do well in dryers, and low quality fleece does not even do well in washing machines. It can clump up and become plain ugly, so it is a good idea to put a swatch in the washer and see how it does there, then put it in the dryer and see how it does. This test will let you know whether you have to avoid both the washer and the dryer or just stick to hang drying it.

While fleece does have these two downsides, it is otherwise a fine material to use for any jackets or blankets for the colder months of the year. Fleece fabric is one of the softest and warmest types that you can find, and it is often more affordable than many other types of fabrics as well.
